(-: WELCOME :-)

I’m Dr. Sarah Berkson

I'm a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist based in New York City. I work with children, teens, adults, and families to navigate emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges — with compassion, curiosity, and deep clinical expertise.

What I Offer

I provide a range of services, tailored to the unique needs of each individual and family:

  • Psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and psychiatric care for children, teens, and adults

  • Child-parent psychotherapy for young children and their caregivers

  • Consultation for daycares and preschools to support the relational health of children, families and staff

I provide these services in person in Manhattan, as well as online for people in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.

How I Work

I take a holistic, individualized approach, integrating my expertise in psychiatry, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and developmental science. I focus on building strong, trusting relationships, because I believe healing starts with feeling seen, heard, and safe. In our work together, I listen not just to what’s said, but also to what’s unsaid — not only the words spoken but also body language, tone, and behavior. I pay attention to what happens in the here and now in the treatment relationship to ground the work of healing, building understanding, and supporting development. When needed, I also collaborate closely with schools, therapists, primary care and specialist physicians, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to care.
